Gilman Stordock, commandant at the Veterans Home at King, in the principal address of the convention, spoke on the service of the Mexican Border Veterans to the nation in the Mexican border conflict of 1916. He said the veterans were a part of stopping an invasion of America by a foreign nation and also made up three of five divisions which went to France in World War I. Stordock, who is co-chairman of the national organizations legislative committee, reminded the group that Mexican Border Veterans had served in Spanish American War in 1898, and others have since served in both World Wars I and II and the Korean conflict.

The Mexican Border soldiers were the nation's last volunteer Army, Stordock said. The draft didnt come until World War he said. Pres. Eisenhowers first assignment after he was graduated from West Point, Stordock said, was in toe Mexican border conflict with the 8th Illinois Infantry Division, A 92-year-old Chicago man is the eldest member in the organization, and Fredrickson, who is S3, the youngest member.
