John Townsend, 89, Soldiers Grove, died Sunday, July 20, 1986, in the Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home, Soldiers Grove. He was born Sept. 25, 1896, in the town of Clayton, Crawford County, to John and Carrie (Clason) Townsend. He married Fannie Jane Wines on March 7, 1920.

at the Sime Funeral Home, Readstown, and at the church Wed- nesday from noon to 1 p.m. Russell P. Pate Russell P. Pate, 76, of 1925 Farnam died Saturday, July 19, 1986, in 1 La Crosse Lutheran Hospital. He was born Jan.

12, 1910, in Portage, to John and Anna (Grotzke) Pate. On May 8, 1940, he married Frances Jirsa in Elkader, Iowa. Pate was an engineer for the Milwaukee Railroad for 51 years. He was a member of Badger Lodge 345 Free and Accepted Masons, of the Madison Scottish Rite Bodies, of the La Crosse Chapter: 22 Order of the Eastern Star, the ZOR Shrine Temple, the La Crosse Shrine Club and the Milwaukee Travelers. Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Rose Ann Pate of Madison; four sons, John of Plain, Russell of Farmersburg, Iowa, and Douglas and Steven, both of Portage; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Kastner of Portage.

He was preceded in death by a daughter. Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Asbury Methodist Church. The Rev. Kent Richmond will officiate.

Burial will be in the Silver Lake Cemetery, Portage. Friends may call at the Dickinson Funeral Homes Jackson Street Chapel on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday at the church from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.. A Masonic service will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

Benjamin E. Larry TOMAH, Wis. Benjamin E. Larry, 63, of 720 Lake Tomah, died Saturday, July 19, 1986. He was born April 8, 1923, in the town of Angelo, Monroe County, to Eli and Geneveive (Pettis) Larry.

He married Irene Johnson on May 31, 1947, in Tomah. He founded Larry's Express Trucking, Larry's Power Center, Larry's Brake and Alignment, and the Ridge Lime all in Tomah. He was a member of the Valley of Madison Scottish Rite, the Western Wisconsin York Rite 85, the Smith Council 10, and the Grand Chapter of Royal and Arch Masons, the Sparta Commandery No. 16 and the Tomah Chapter 19, R.A.M., the Mecca Shrine, and was a 32nd Degree Mason. Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Debora Kearney of Sacramento, and Denise Weaver of Tomah; two brothers, La Verne and Winifred; and two sisters, Myrna Larry and Donna Wesoloski; and a grandson.

Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the First Congregational Church, Tomah. The Rev. Calvin Helming will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Memorial Garden Cemetery, Tomah.

Friends may call at the White Funeral Home today from 4 to 8 p.m. Masonic services will be today at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home and at the church from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be given to the church.

Osler Gallagher Osler Gallagher NORWALK, Wis. Services for Osler "Pat" Gallagher, 62, of R.2, Norwalk, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Ninneman-Steele Funeral Home, Tomah. The Rev. Margaret Shepherd will officiate and burial will be in the Mount Vernon Cemetery, Tomah, with military rites by the Tomah American Legion Post 201.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 9 p.m. and also at the funeral home Tuesday from 19 to 11 a.m. Gallagher died Saturday, July 19, 1986, in the Madison Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was born July 27, 1923, in Washington, to Osler and Amanda (Hall) Gallagher. He married Goldie Lamb.

She died Feb. 3, 1959. He then married Idabelle Atkinson on Aug. 13, 1963, in Sparta. He was employed as a nursing aide at the Tomah Veterans Administration Medical Center until his retirement in 1959.

Gallagher was an Army Veteran of World War II. Survivors are his wife; two sons, Jack of Tomah, Richard of St. Louis; a daughter, Audrey Goodon of St. Louis; and five stepsons, Marvin Jensen of Norwalk, Carl Jensen of Camp Douglas, Dennis Jensen of Tomah, and Jake and Nels Jensen, both of Camp Douglas; six stepdaughters, Mary Gnewikow of Tomah, Delores Larson of Clinton, Beatrice Streeter of Beloit, Marlea Evans of Camp Douglas, Janice Mahany of Rockey River, Ohio, and Ruth Herth of Tomah; five sisters, Lucille Risbun, May Stull, Eunice Ross, and Shirley Davidson, all of Washington, and Kate Ann Abed of Dayton, Ohio; 54 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a sister.

Ernest H. Patterson Visitation for Ernest H. Patterson, 68, of 333 S. Seventh will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Blasch- ke Funeral Home.

He died in his home this past week. He was born Feb. 13, 1918, to Dallas Monroe and Julia Ann (Jones) Patterson. Patterson was purchasing agent for Oscar Mayer in Philadelphia and and later for Stahlmeyer Co. in New York City until his retirement.

He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. Survivors are his wife, L. Gayle Patterson of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Cathy Mingle and Sue Ann Davis, both of Charlotte; a son, Stephen of Charlotte; six grandchildren; a sister, Buelah Larson of and two brothers, Dallas M. of Neenah, and Weldon C. of Alexandria, Va.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. His body will be cremated. Hjalmer B. Theige WESTBY, Wis. Services for Hjalmer B.

Theige, 83, Westby, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the WestbyCoon Prairie Lutheran church. The Rev. Paul Jordahl will officiate and burial will be in the Coon Prairie Cemetery, Westby. Friends may call at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, Westby, today from 7 to 9 p.m.

and at the church Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. Theige died Saturday, July 19, 1986, in the Norseland Nursing Home, Westby. He was born April 22, 1903, in the town of Viroqua, to Amandus and Ida (Johnson) Theige. He married Margaret Sorenson on May 25, 1929. They farmed in the Westby area.

He was a member of the WestbyCoon Prairie Lutheran Church and was a trustee and a deacon and also served on the Mission Board. He was a Bethel Home delegate and member of the Westby Farmers Union and served on the Von Ruden School Board. Adams Freida C. Adams, 91, of 210 Avon died Sunday, July 20, 1986, in the St. Francis Medical Center. She was born July 18, 1895, in DeSoto, to William and Lucey (Cole) Joseph. She married Earl T.

Adams in April of 1914. He died in 1961. Survivors are a daughter, Aileen Sherman of Milwaukee; two sons, Greg of La Crosse, and Rodney of Hixton; and four grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Kuehl TOMAH, Wis. Milferd H. Kuehl, 63, of R.1, Tomah, died Saturday, July 19, 1986, in the Tomah Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Ninneman-Steele Funeral Home, Tomah. Sister Andriella Mateju Sister Andriella (Anna) Mateju, 92, a Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, died Friday, July 18, 1986, in the Villa St.

Joseph. She was born July 6, 1894, to Albert and Antonia (Tomasek) Mateju, in Hokah, Minn. She entered St. Rose Convent on Oct. 18, 1917.

She was a nurse for 45 years in Idaho, Iowa and Wisconsin hospitals. For 30 years she was an anesthetist, six of them being at St. Francis Medical Center. She was a member of the Eastern Region and in the 66th year of her religious profession. Survivors are two sisters, Marcella and Julia Mateju, both of La Crosse.

Services will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. in Mary of the Angels Chapel, St. Rose Convent. The Rev. Bernard McGarty will officiate.

Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the convent today from 7 to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:15 p.m. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, La Crosse, is in charge of arrangements. Albert F.

Pliner HILLSBORO, Wis. Albert F. Pliner, 91, R.3, Hillsboro, died Saturday, July 19, 1986, in the Richland Hospital, Richland Center. He was born April 22, 1895, in Richland County, to Wencil and Barbara (Subera) Pliner. He married Mary Kosa on Nov.

9, 1920. She died Jan. 16, 1986. They farmed all of their lives in Melancthon Creek. Survivors are a daughter, Vercelia McNamer of rural Yuba; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Slama of New Lisbon.

Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in Picha's Funeral Home, Hillsboro. The Rev. Ambrose J. Blenker will officiate.

Burial will be in the Czechs National Cemetery, Yuba. Friends may call today at the funeral from 2 to 9 p.m. where there will be a Bible vigil today at 8 p.m. Friends may also call at the funeral home Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Bertha E. Tiffany LA CRESCENT, Minn. Bertha E. Tiffany, 88, of 238 N. Second La Crescent, died at a friend's home, Sunday, July 20, 1986.

She was born on July 1, 1898, in Bush Valley, Houston County, to John and Mary (Baumgartner) Roher. She was a member of the La Crescent Senior Citizens and was a volunteer at the La Crescent Health Care Center. Survivors are a son, Joseph Hodge of La Crescent; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a sister, Kathryn Knapp of Brownsville. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd Hodge, her second husband, William Tiffany, a sister three brothers. Services will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.

in the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, LaCrescent, and at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Crucifixion, La Crescent. The Rev. Raymond Ryan will officiate and burial will be in the Pine Creek Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Beware of unofficial Yellow Pages. 4 Louise A. Runningen CALEDONIA, Minn. Louise A. Runningen, 90, Caledonia, died Saturday, July 19, 1986, in the Valley View Nursing Home, Houston.

She was born Nov. 12, 1895, in Caledonia, to John and Julia (Strand) Pieper. She married Julius Runningen on May 24, 1916, in Houston. He died Oct. 17, 1951.

They farmed in Crystal Valley, rural Houston, until 1952. She was past president of the Ladies Aid Group, Crystal Valley, and member of the American Lutheran Church Women of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia, and of the Farm Bureau, Caledonia. Survivors are two sons, Vernon of Preston, and Milo of La Crescent; four grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; and a sister, Lillian Inglett of Caledonia. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, two sisters and two brothers. Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m.

in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Revs. Rolf Storlie and Kent A. Otterman will officiate. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery, Houston.
