Vernon County gets $30,000 domestic abuse grant A grant of $30,000 from the state of Wisconsin will support the Vernon County Domestic Abuse program for 19. The program provides confidential counseling, referral and follow-up services to victims of domestic violence and their children. Jackie Miller is the coordinator of the program. Miller will work closely with the Vernon County Domestic Abuse Task Force.

Other members of the 26-person task force include representatives from the human services, police department, sheriffs department, district attorneys office, hospital, and community volunteers. James R. Lyman, 75, of Onalaska, died Friday Feb. 2, 1996, in the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. He was born May 26, 1920, in the town of Philadelphia, Pa. He married Marjorie Canavan March 30, 1942.

She preceded him in death in 1976. Jim was a manager at General Electric, Chicago, 111., for many years. He is survived by his son, James (Bonnie) Lyman of La Crescent; a daughter, Barbara (Eric) Jackson of Dover, England; and three grandchildren, Christie, Shawn and Kyler of La Crescent. Jim was a loving father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family. There will be no services, his body was cremated.

is retired now and used tcjjbe the manager of student life fqf Western Wisconsin Technical College. Myrtle Johnson CHETEK, Wis. Myrtle C. Johnson, 86, of Chetek, died Friday Feb. 2, 1996, in the Knapp Haven Nursing Home, Chetek.

She was born Nov. 8, 1909, in Trempealeau County to Andrew and Agnes (Knutson) Greenwold. She married William Johnson Nov. 7, 1928, in Eau Claire, and lived in the Chetek area all her life. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Chetek, and past president and member of the Edgewood Homemakers Club.

She is survived by her husband, William T. of Chetek; two sons, Robert (Honey) of Chetek and Paul (Marilyn) of Cameron; two daughters, Eileen Boren of West Salem and Lois (Maurice) Elwood of Waukesha; one sister, Ruth Anderson of Kenosha; 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Agnes (Knutson) Greenwold; one son, Jack; four brothers, Martin, Alfred, Hjalmer and Milton; two sisters, Esther and Nellie; and one granddaughter, Linda. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Christ Lutheran Church, Chetek.

Marguerite Figge Goodermote Marguerite Figge Goodermote, 83, of La Crosse, and formerly of Ossian, Iowa, and Hokah, died Friday Feb. 2, 1996, in the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. She was born July 26, 1912, in Alma, to John G. and Wilma (Bade) Schroeder. Marguerite was a registered nurse having graduated from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in 1933.

She had worked as a nursing supervisor at Lutheran Hospital for several years. On June 6, 1936, she married Greg A. Figge. He died Sept. 29, 1967.

Marguerite married Don E. Goodermote July 20, 1974. They made their home in Hokah until his death May 11, 1993. Following his death, Marguerita moved to La Crosse. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann (Steve) Hamann of Davenport, Iowa; a brother, Carl J.

Schroeder of La Crosse; and a niece, as well as many cousins. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the English Lutheran Church. The Rev. Mark E.

Jolivette will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Francis De Sales Cemetery, Ossian, Iowa, at a later date. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until time of services Monday in the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be directed to the Lutheran Hospital Foundation, Nurses Chapel. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse is in charge of arrangements. Ristow, 72, died of cancer Monday Jan. 29, 1996, in his home. He was born Feb. 10, 1923, in Goose Island, La Crosse County, to Henry (Toots) and Dorothy Ristow. He married La Verna Ferg in Eau Claire Sept.

1946. He graduated from Central High, went one year to La Crosse State, and finished college at Stout University before and after WWII. He served in the Army in Europe and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He taught at East High in Green Bay before moving to California in 1956, where he 1 taught at Whittier and La Serna High. He was a 50 year member of the V.F.W., also active 20 years in-the Gideons International.

He is survived by his wife, La Verna; daughter, Judy (Wally) Hardison of Santa Rosa, a son, Wayne Lee (Carol) of Corona, two sisters, Arlene (Ernie) Schroeder of Mindoro and Marion Twite of Melrose; seven grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew; and many cousins from La Crosse and surrounding area. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Kathy (Rich) McColl. Private morning graveside services were held Thursday Feb. 1, 1996, a memorial service was then held in the afternoon at Rose Hills Cemetery, Whittier, Calif. i The family asks that memorials be sent to Gideons International Memorial Bible Fund, P.O.
