Observes 80th Anniversary ETTRICK, Wis.

(Special) The 80th birthday of Peter Weverstad. Abrahams Coulee, was observed by many visitors who came to call on Friday and Sunday. Weverstad was born in Onalaska, Jan. 2, 1873. When he was a year old the family came to the Frenchville community where the elder Weverstad was a blacksmith.

In 1901 Peter was married to Anna Raichle and the couple engaged in farming in the Abrahams Coulee region where they resided since. Weverstad retired from active farming 24 years ago, but he has a hobby of raising giant dahlias and gladioli, and Mr. and Mrs. Weverstad have provided these flowers for weddings and many festive occasions in the area. Mr.

and Mrs. Weverstad have one son, William, who lives in Galesville, and a granddaughter, Lois. a New Jersey port La Vern Larsou and Kenneth Muehlenkamp recently spent furloughs at their homes in Norwalk Lt. Gordon Weihs cabled his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milo Johnson, South Beaver Creek, with his wife, was at the home of his parents for the holiday season. Johnson has received his discharge from a Military Police Detachment at Kansas City. Mo.

He entered the Army Jan. 5, 1951, at Minnea- lis, and for seven months lls Military Police School at Ft. JOHNSON Sheridan, 111. Before entering the service Johnson was a truck driver for the Racine Transportation Companh. He returned to Racine in January.

Mrs. Johnson is the former Nadine Godsy, Kansas City. The couple was married at Kansas City, Sept. 20. Lt.

Col. and Mrs. John Butler spent the holidays with the parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.

E. Butler at Sparta. Col. Butler is stationed at Wright Field, Dayton, O. Pfc.

Gile D. McWain has completed a 20-day furlough at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vilas Mc Wain of Holmen. He arrived from Memphis, where he completed specialist courses to qualify him for a rating of aviation mate in the Marine Corps.

Mullins and his Mullins and children, Dixie Onalee, 9, and Jan Williams, 3 have returned to the States from Germany, where the captain has been stationed for two years, and plan to spend the holidays with Mrs. parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Budde, in Wilton. Capt.

Mullins is an auditor with the Army of Occupation and was formerly cashier of the Wilton State Bank. His wife and children joined him in Germany on Thanksgiving Day. 1951 Robert McGarvey, USAF, son of Mrs. Marie McGarvey of Wilton, has just completed a course in aviation at Norman, Okla and expects to come home about Dec. 28 for a furlough Bruce Schnurr, also of the USAF, is home from his base at Wichita Falls, and will spend Christmas with his parents, Mr.

and Mrs, Roy Schnurr in Wilton. Lt. John Rose, ion of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Rose, is spending a 30-day leave at his home in Tomah.

Rose was recently awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters in recognition of his work with the 17th Bomb Wing in Sheriff Ernest Axness; Treasurer Everett Gust; Clerk H. M. Johnson and Register of Deeds Lester Brennom; Clerk of Court Donna M. Amundson; Highway Commissioner Jena Klavestad; and County Judge Twesme.

(Special) Contributions to the Tomah Memorial Hospital Christmas fund have reached $1,985, according to the latest tabulation. Dramatic Photographs of a pinned truck driver being consoled were taken at the scene of the truck-car collision four miles south of Black River Falls on Highway 12 Tuesday. Mrs. Earl Olson, 48, Eau Claire, passenger of the car (center photo) was killed instantly, while Gerald Massie, St. Paul truck driver, died while en route to a Black River Falls hospital. Extensive wreckage of semi-tractor trailer is shown in the lower picture with Massie still pinned.

Others in the photo were not identified. Massie was conscious at the time. According to authorities Massie had attempted to pass another on a bridge and smashed into an approaching car driven by Mrs. husband, stationed at Camp McCoy and scheduled to leave for Korean service Jan. 15.

With the Olsons was another couple, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wilson, Eau Claire, both escaping injury. Wilson is stationed at McCoy. Readstown Homecoming Scheduled By School READSTOWN.

Wis. (Special) will be host to the West Lima High School Friday, Jan. 9, for annual homecoming. A dance will follow the game with music by the Melody Masters. The court of honor consists of: Nordahl Lerum, king; Shirley Nelson, Marlene Bide, Mary Morkri and Jean Eide.

2nd Mothers' Course Ready SPARTA, Wis. (Special) The second class for expectant mothers and young mothers for the eastern half of Monroe County, including the City of Tomah, will begin Jan. 8 at 1:30 p.m. Classes will be held at the Tomah Memorial I Hospital. Miss Beata J.

M. Geiger, Monroe County public health nurse, all expectant mothers and mothers of (infants to register at the hospital or with Miss Geiger by telephone jor by mail. Class attendance at previous courses for expectant mothers has been gratifying The course, consisting of eight lessons, will be flexible annd sessions may be postponed in case of inclement weather or bad traveling conditions, Miss Geiger explained. Caledonia School Gets New Teacher TREMPEALEAU, Wis. (Special) Has 92nd Birthday of Trempealeau Joint School District No. I resumed classes Monday after a two weeks 'holiday vacation. The position of primary teacher in the Caledonia School made vacant by the sudden death of the teacher, Mrs. Elaine Hotchkiss, on Sunday, Dec.

13, is now being filled by Mrs. Kenneth Drugan who will finish the rest of the school assigned to a helicopter squadron Korea. Tomah Continues Housing Service TOMAH, Wis. Joseph Stellflue and family will spend the holidays with relatives in Milwaukee. Mr. and Mrs. Miles Wheeler and Magazines Use BRF Pictures BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Special) James Speltz, Black River Falls photographer, had the distinction of having two pictures he had taken appear on the covers of magazines within a three-week period.

His cover shots appeared on Tempo magazine, trade journal of the Gamble. McCloud and Western Auto Supply Stores throughout United States. Canada, and Hawaii; and on the cover of the Wisconsin Education Association Journal. The Tempo cover shot featured the two Speltz youngsters. Mike and Steven, 5 and 2, favorite models for their camera.

The picture was made at the local Gamble Store last December as the children gazed at the toy display in anticipation of Christmas. Louis Gardipee, local Gamble store owner, sent the picture to the editor of the magazine, and the editor thought the picture deserving of the cover spot for the December issue. All Parent-Teacher Associations, Homemakers and other individuals and organizations recruiting donors are urged to return their recruitment lists to the Sparta Red Cross chapter at once. Scheduling for the blood visit at the Masonic Temple in Sparta Feb. 2, 3, and 4 will begin within a few days and all donors are to be registered by that time. Those who are not called for the February visit will be expected to donate during the visit in May.

Persons who were missed in the recruitment drive and would like to register may telephone or mail their pledge to the Red Cross office. The telephone number is 432 and the address is South Water Sparta. The blood center will be open Monday, Feb. 2. from I to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb.

3, I to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, Feb. 3, 9 a m. to 3 p.m. A total of 645 donors will be scheduled for the three days to) assure a quota of 600 pints of blood.

Notable in the recruitment in the rural area was the Elm Grove School District, which listed 23 donors, solicited by Lewellwyn Hutson. St. Hospital recruited 47 donors. Hemstock Brothers cement factory at Sparta listed 15 donors and will close its plant to permit all employes who are able to give blood to go to the center in a group. For 50th Year Group Has Holiday Reunion VIROQUA, Wis. (Special) Mrs. C. Hay ter and her uncles, the Bergourst Brothers, Leonard, John and Morris, celebrated their 50th annual get together at Christmas at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Hayter at Viroqua. This is an unusual record as they have never missed being together at Christmas for 50 years. It has not always been easy and they have traveled by sleigh, car and even walked through snow drifts to be together. The dinner has always consisted of plenty of ludefisk and lefse, meat balls and other Norwegian dishes. Mrs.

Iowa Aid Payments Come To $20,226 WAUKON, la. (Special)-The State of Iowa paid $20,226 to 441 persons in Allamakee County during November. Receiving old age assistance were 284 persons, averaging $53.55 to each; 157 persons received $5,017 for dependent children. The average payment per case was $125.42. and the average per person $31-96.
